Park Clean-up & BBQ Event

Since the founding of Friends, the Annual Park Clean-up and BBQ has provided an opportunity for members to actively participate in caring for our environment. Each year Friends extends an invitation to the community to join us at the Park for two hours of clean-up activity followed by an afternoon BBQ to relax and socialize. In fulfilling our commitment to demonstrate ecological stewardship, we enhance the park experience for ourselves and everyone who enjoys the outdoors.

In 2009, more than 30 volunteers shared a beautiful May afternoon at this event. The clean up was a great success, with a total of 54 garbage bags collected in two hours. We found that returnable cans and bottles represented a large proportion of the litter and are looking for a solution to divert this refuse from landfill in future years.
